MCX silver and the bullion rate

MCX — the Multi Commodity Exchange of India — is where Indian silver futures trade, and it is the venue most domestic silver dealing references through the day. The rate above is All India Bullion's own Mumbai reference for 999 fine silver, quoted in rupees per kilogram before GST, and it moves with the exchange as the session runs.

India imports almost all the silver it consumes, so the rate starts from the international spot price in dollars per troy ounce, converts at the rupee rate, and then carries import duty and the local dealer's spread. A move in the dollar price and a move in the rupee can pull the domestic rate in opposite directions on the same day.

Silver is the higher-beta of the two metals. It responds to the same macro drivers as gold — the dollar, real yields, the rupee — and then adds industrial demand on top, which is why it regularly moves two to three times as far in percentage terms on the same day. On 13 October 2026, 999 silver in India is ₹2,22,718 per kilogram, which is ₹223 per gram and ₹2,227 per 10 grams. Sterling silver (925) is 92.5% pure, so a sterling article of the same weight carries ₹206 of metal per gram.

These are All India Bullion reference metal rates, not a finished invoice. A silver article adds making charges and 3% GST on the metal (5% on the making charges). Sterling and coin-silver columns are the 999 rate scaled by fineness and assume no deduction for refining loss.

Questions, answered

MCX silver rate — common questions

What is the MCX silver rate today?

Silver is ₹2,22,718 per kilogram at 999 fineness as of 13 October 2026 at 21:27 IST, which is ₹223 per gram and ₹2,227 per 10 grams. This is All India Bullion's Mumbai (Zaveri Bazar) reference rate, quoted before 3% GST. Indian silver rates move with the MCX silver contract through the day.

What is the lot size of MCX silver?

The main Silver contract is 30 kg, which is a large position for most retail traders. MCX also lists Silver Mini at 5 kg and Silver Micro at 1 kg for smaller sizing. All of them settle against 999 fine silver — the same fineness the retail bullion rate is quoted for, unlike gold, where exchange delivery is at a 995 minimum.

What time does MCX silver trade?

MCX bullion trades 9:00 AM to 11:30 PM IST (11:55 PM when US markets are on daylight saving time), Monday to Friday. Silver follows COMEX closely, so the most active part of the Indian session is usually the evening, once US markets open.

Why does silver move more than gold?

Silver's market is far smaller than gold's in value terms, so the same flow of money moves the price further. About half of silver demand is industrial — solar, electronics, brazing — which adds the manufacturing cycle on top of the macro drivers gold responds to. The gold-silver ratio today is 67.1 to 1, which is the standard way traders track the relationship between the two.

Does the silver rate include GST?

No. The rate on this page is the metal reference rate before tax. Buying physical silver adds 3% GST on the metal value, and a worked article adds making charges taxed at 5% on top of that.

Why is silver quoted per kilogram and gold per 10 grams?

Because of the value difference. A kilogram of gold is worth tens of times a kilogram of silver, so gold is quoted in a small weight to keep the number manageable, and silver in a large one for the same reason. It is why "silver rate" stated without a unit almost always means the per-kilogram price in India.

Can I take delivery of silver from MCX?

In principle yes, but it requires an approved commodity trading account, a full lot and an exchange-designated vault, which puts it out of reach for most retail buyers. For physical metal, All India Bullion sells 999 silver coins and bars at the live bullion rate with GST included and insured delivery.
